YAY, Season 9!
Sorry for the delay folks, but WE. ARE. BACK! Watched the New York and Dallas auditions last week and WOW, this is looking to be another outstanding batch of talent.
Two auditions worth noting, while I'm waiting for tonight's audition show to queue up:
- The Mom. Because seriously, were those not THE. CUTEST. KIDS. EVER. on TV? That little ballerina stole my heart - and I HAVE a little ballerina! And make no mistake, that woman (Bree, was it?) was a tremendous dancer; she didn't just win my heart on the cuteness-of-her-kids vote. I am really looking forward to seeing what she can do in Vegas, and I have my fingers crossed for her, especially (but not exclusively) because as a mom, I can absolutely appreciate delaying your dream for the wonderful opportunity that is raising young children.
- The Exorcist. Now, this was not an audition I was looking forward to, based on the teasers and his own description of the dance. I'm not a big fan of the auditions of people who can't really dance but don't know it (or who know it perfectly well, and just want their moment in the sun), and I was afraid this would be one of those. But instead, I was absolutely riveted, and furthermore, I. GOT. IT. I completely understood what he meant when he said he would take your pain and exorcise it through his dance, and I cried. What he did more or less defies explanation, and yet I had to hold myself down from giving him a standing ovation right here in my family room. I *truly* hope he has more to offer, and that he doesn't just make it to Vegas and that's that, because I would LOVE to see what he'd be capable of with other types of dance. But frankly, even if that was the last we saw of him, I feel privileged to have seen that audition.
And now, on to LA...
This is a fan blog for Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance," focusing on how the untrained audience judges the dancers and their performances.
Not that the world needed yet another fan blog about a TV show, but after a very interesting Season 7, I felt more convinced than ever that this show would benefit from having a judge on its panel each week who is merely a fan - not a choreographer, producer, or Hollywood bigwig. The Judges (capital "J" when referring to The Main Trio) might find themselves a bit more in tune with the audience if they actually ever bothered to ask why the audience votes the way it does. So, to be purely self-serving and egomaniacal, I have appointed myself "the SYTYCD Fan Judge" (until such time as the show appoints one), and with that, here is yet another fan blog about a TV show...
