Not that the world needed yet another fan blog about a TV show, but after a very interesting Season 7, I felt more convinced than ever that this show would benefit from having a judge on its panel each week who is merely a fan - not a choreographer, producer, or Hollywood bigwig. The Judges (capital "J" when referring to The Main Trio) might find themselves a bit more in tune with the audience if they actually ever bothered to ask why the audience votes the way it does. So, to be purely self-serving and egomaniacal, I have appointed myself "the SYTYCD Fan Judge" (until such time as the show appoints one), and with that, here is yet another fan blog about a TV show...

Top 6 Results - On to the Finale! (SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Justin Giles' opening routine was beautiful and sweet, and a fitting ending for this semi-final group.

As for tonight's results: am I the only one who was a little surprised to learn that tonight, those going home would be entirely determined by last night’s vote? Nigel tweeted it earlier today, and I’m still a little confused – his explanation tonight didn’t do anything to change that. If we’re going to be able to vote again after the performance finale next week, then what difference does it make who the top two were tonight?? I guess they were concerned that, as has happened before, people would get complacent thinking their favorites were taken care of, and they wanted to keep it more pure. Or, maybe they just thought that the results were what they would've wanted anyway, so why waste the time with another round of competitive solos? In any case, I think the show did a disservice by not explaining that to people last night. Votes might not have changed, but at least people would feel like they had the opportunity to make the difference at the right time. Then again, Nigel would probably say that he can't win: half the time, people are complaining that their votes "don't count" because the judges ultimately keep people who repeatedly appear in the bottom, and here tonight we're complaining that their votes are ALL that counted. Go figure.

ANYway: it is sad but not surprising to say goodbye to Caitlynn and Ricky this week. Neither has done anything to deserve going home other than simply being less fantastic than the remaining four. The question now is: does Melanie take it all? Does Sasha Fierce's incredible network of support pull out the win? Does one of the boys pull a total coup and unseat both women who maybe split the vote? Tune in next week for the finale!!

P.S. Thank you, Nigel, for the encore performance of Kent & Lauren's "Collide" duet by Travis. What a lovely reunion!
