Not that the world needed yet another fan blog about a TV show, but after a very interesting Season 7, I felt more convinced than ever that this show would benefit from having a judge on its panel each week who is merely a fan - not a choreographer, producer, or Hollywood bigwig. The Judges (capital "J" when referring to The Main Trio) might find themselves a bit more in tune with the audience if they actually ever bothered to ask why the audience votes the way it does. So, to be purely self-serving and egomaniacal, I have appointed myself "the SYTYCD Fan Judge" (until such time as the show appoints one), and with that, here is yet another fan blog about a TV show...

Season 8 - HERE WE GO!!!

I'm running late (it's been a GREAT holiday weekend!), so I'll keep this short. Hellooooo, Talent! Season 8 is going to be some serious competition, and I already have some favorites. Loved the Ginnifer Goodwin look-alike, and was pleasantly surprised that a contemporary audition piece could move me to tears. Saw many other talented folks in the bunch, and am looking forward to seeing what Vegas holds for them. Above all, I am thrilled to see Ryan Ramirez back (did anyone else catch her cameo in the Glee season finale??), and have my fingers crossed that this is her year. Strap your seatbelts on people, 'cause this is gonna be one helluva ride!

  1. So nice to see you're continuing your SYTYCD blog for season 8. I liked the ATL and LA auditions but NY left me shaking my head at all the crazies who tried out. LOL My 2 standouts from the past 3 audition eps are Melanie Moore and Arielle Coker. Melanie was AMAZING and Arielle has grown soooo much as a dancer. (she auditioned for seasons 4,5, and 7) I thought Amber Williams was going to be a joke with her Kate Gosselin hair but she was pretty good too. Jess Le Protto the Broadway Jazz guy I thought was really good but I think he's going to be one of those great technically but short on personality. He already acts like he's got a chip on his shoulder but I could be wrong. Princess Lockeroo I thought was going to be a joke too but I enjoyed her performance. At one point I thought she was going to take flight like a helicopter! LOL But lets see if she can do any other styles. Patty Anne Miller and Hiro McRae were awesome! We haven't had a decent b-girl since Comfort! I really hope they can do other styles. As a side note, Hiro's crew won America's Best Dance Crew season 4 a couple of years ago. I think the judges overpraised alot of dancers where I was like "meh". But thank God they didn't show too many "disaster" auditions like AI. The girls seem strong this year. I can't wait for Vegas! :D

  2. Thanks, Sher! And thanks for giving me the opportunity to make a few comments about the week I "missed":

I was SO disappointed that Arielle didn't make it - I think she had more to offer than Miranda (per your comment on last night's Top 20 show), but only time will tell. Was also disappointed that China and Amber didn't make the cut, but I think we'll likely see them in a subsequent season when they've matured a bit as dancers (although I'm not sure either will mature much as a person in a year's time!). Agreed on your other comments, but I was not really surprised to see Patty Anne and Hiro go--like I said in my pre-Vegas review, I think the judges tended to overestimate the outside-their-genre potential of some folks. Then again, maybe Vegas will inspire them to broaden their horizons and come back with more to offer next year...
