LAUREN!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!
Well folks, the big moment arrived when Lauren was crowned the Season 7 winner. There really was no going wrong (once Robert was announced as 3rd) - either Kent or Lauren would've been a great choice, but honestly, I think Lauren was just a smidge more deserving. She was a little more consistently good throughout her performances, and ultimately, I think she wanted the win a bit more. In any case, she is The New "It" Girl, and my sincere congratulations go to her. Great choice, America!
But let's not leave this discussion without acknowledging the second greatest moment of the night. Those of you who happened through the internet late today probably saw it coming (as did I), but nobody could've anticipated just how AWESOME it would ultimately prove to be. Props, kudos, and major "DAMN, girl!"s go to ELLEN DEGENERES, the surprise "superstar" who not only got her wish to dance on the show, but who actually got to be the Alex Wong stand-in in the reprise of his mega-sick hip-hop routine with Twitch. I wasn't surprised to see the routine modified a bit for her, but I was absolutely gobsmacked to see how well she did with all that was left IN! I love Ellen Degeneres anyway, but she earned a whole new chunk of respect from me for an outstanding effort that could easily have fallen flat considering how hard an act Alex is to follow, and instead she rocked the house. Way to go, Ellen! And a HUGE thank you to Nigel and the SYTYCD producers for letting it happen.
An exceptional end to an extraordinary season leaves me already excited for Season 8!! In the meantime, we'll have some periodic updates, chats, recaps, and ponderances to keep us in the spirit until that fateful First Audition Day. Thanks for reading - stay tuned!!
This is a fan blog for Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance," focusing on how the untrained audience judges the dancers and their performances.
Not that the world needed yet another fan blog about a TV show, but after a very interesting Season 7, I felt more convinced than ever that this show would benefit from having a judge on its panel each week who is merely a fan - not a choreographer, producer, or Hollywood bigwig. The Judges (capital "J" when referring to The Main Trio) might find themselves a bit more in tune with the audience if they actually ever bothered to ask why the audience votes the way it does. So, to be purely self-serving and egomaniacal, I have appointed myself "the SYTYCD Fan Judge" (until such time as the show appoints one), and with that, here is yet another fan blog about a TV show...

I was happy that Lauren won and I agree that I think she wanted it more and was a tad more deserving. Plus I know alot of people who were getting tired of Kent's "aw shucks" routine. I would have to agree with Mia and say that Robert had grown the most this season. He annoyed me so much in the beginner be he grew to be such a mature dancer. Lauren was the most consistent and the most able to adapt to all the dance styles. Kent grew as well as a dancer (just not as much as Robert) and he did well in most (not all) the dance genres. So yeah. Lauren should have won and finally America got it right.
ReplyDeleteInteresting factoid: S3,5,7 winners are all female. Hmmm. so next year is Alex's year and then a girl can win the year after! LOL
Back to the show... I hated it that they reprised Jose and Dom's hip-hop. Was it just me or was it even slower and out of sync then when they first danced it??? I'm shocked they didn't do the prom routine since it did have our top 2 in it. Loved that Alex was incorporated in the group dance. Loved the LXD opening number. Loved Quest's number as well. It looks like they got new members. Could have done without the singer (what's his name) and had more routines. The SYTYCD UK winner was AMAZING!!!
All in all a good finale. I'm sad summer is over..... wait. not I'm not. That means the kids go to school soon! WooHoo!!! LOL Well I'll obsess over some other shows in the fall but I probably won't be tweeting/updating about them. Maybe I should start my own blog!! LOL
Ack! I forgot to comment on Ellen. Yes she was wonderful. Once I got over the shock and disappointment that it wasn't Mikail Barishnikov (LOL) Ellen was awesome and funny and I can only jope that I move that well when I'm her age....
ReplyDeleteSharon - Agreed on the Jose hip-hop. Obviously, they needed to showcase Jose in *something* since he was Top 6, but while it might have been one of HIS better routines (and that's truly debatable), it certainly wasn't one of the season's. But, they also couldn't do all the best routines since there were so many good ones this time (the influence of using all-stars, I think). Also missing was the Billy & Lauren jazz routine (Boogie Shoes), the Robert & Kathryn "military goodbye" routine, and a couple of routines featuring the other girls (Cristina, Ashley, Alexie, Melanie) that were, if not exceptional, at least better than the Jose/Dominic hip-hop.
ReplyDeleteAlso agree about Robert (he grew on me by the finale, but I still didn't think he shoulda won, so I was happy he was #3) and that they incorporated Alex into the group number.
Also agree about the end of summer. We've had a really good summer, but I am READY for school to start! More time for blogging. ;) And if you're looking for something to comment on while SYTYCD is off the air, there's always my other blog - www.laundrythoughts.blogspot.com - on random stuff and life in general.
